Well, the current estimates are the 5422 people missing in New York and another four or five hundred expected to be found in the Pentagon. That's a pretty fair number of folk. It's a terrible thing. It's a disaster. In Iraq this month, 5000 kids will die, because of the American led embargo against Saddam Hussein. Which hasn't bothered him in 10 years, but it is costing his people 5000 children per month, year in, year out. Half a million….whew. That's a lot of kids. Fortunately they're easily replaceable.
And then there's the question of Saudi Arabia, where the only reason that the King of Saudi exists is to protect the Holy Land against the invasion of infidels, as exemplified by the multiple crusades of the past. We put troops, Air Force mostly, airbases, planes support crews, into Saudi Arabia, with the express permission of course of the king, who has been a puppet of the American and British oil interests since the 1920's when they installed him on the throne. And that is exactly what finally pushed Osamu bin Laden over the edge and caused him to form up his network of "Islamic Terrorists", if you will. That's the one that keyed him - before that, he got along with us at least well enough to take our money and our help in fighting the Russians in Afghanistan. Where of course he was hero, and is a hero for having helped run the Russians out. And therefor the Afghanis cannot under any imaginable circumstance refuse him shelter. Islamic law requires that once you offer somebody shelter, they are under your protection and you are required to fight to the death to their defense. So as long as he is in Afghanistan that means that the Taliban and most of the people there will be committed to defending him. And we're talking about going in and bombing Afghanistan, or at least attacking it militarily.
And while we're at it we're going to bomb Iraq some more. Not that anyone has proven any connection with any part of this plot and the Iraqis, but hey, while we're in the neighborhood, you know what I mean?
Look, let's get something straight. There are a lot of Muslims in the world who do not support this terrorist activity but are in and of themselves somewhat irritated at America's role in their part of the world. I imagine the parents of those 5000 kids have got a few issues with Uncle Sam. The faithful around the world from Indonesia to Somalia are a little irritated at the idea of an infidel fighting force stationed in their holy land particularly since the practices of that force are offensive to their religion. Women without veils driving 5 ton trucks through downtown Rihad.
There are some things that we could do right now to ease the anger of the Muslim community around the world and perhaps decrease the base of support for the Islamic radicals. A lot of people have referred to the horrifying situation in Beirut during the Reagan years when I believe it was 247 of our Marines were killed in the bombing of their barracks. Not many people remember what we did about that. Virtually nothing to the people who did it, because we couldn't find them. But six months later we pulled our troops out of Lebanon and lo and behold we have not had very many casualties, American or other European in Lebanon since that time. The fighting has died down considerably.
Now I'm not saying that peace is going to come by simply pulling our troops out of Saudi. But it can't hurt, and it might help. And, at this point anything that might help is better than the plans that are currently being made for bombing, special forces invasions and other military actions that will guarantee a new recruiting wave for Osamu bin Laden and the folks who carry on his tradition, even if we got him. If we can ease this up at this point and turn it around, we might be able to get out of this trouble in five or ten years. If we don't, it's going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of a century, during which at random moments and random times thousands of people will die in a war nobody can win.
