Subheadings below on this page: why maintenance || Web site monitoring Why maintenance Web site maintenance is a necessary, ongoing "check and update" of your site. If you have ever clicked on a link that went nowhere or read something that you knew was wrong or out of date on the Web, you know how important this is. You need to make sure all of your links work all of the time. Outside links need to be checked frequently, to make sure the pages you have linked to have not closed or moved. You may want to change links to give visitors new options. Also, you will want to keep your site up-to-date with your most current information, prices, other updates. You should add new information frequently, to give your visitors a reason to come back. An out-of-date Web site is seriously worse than no Web site at all. Be sure to check prices for maintenance with your Web designer. These can range from $40 a month to hundreds a month depending on your designer and the complexity and size of your site. Web site monitoring There are several companies out there who will monitor your site and your web site hosting company to check access speed and downtime. It's free and highly recommended. Typically they "ping" your site every 15 minutes or so, and report back to you on how long it took to reach and if your site is ever not available. WebStreetStudios uses Webpartner.com . Webpartner has recently started charging a fee. Another one we've heard about is Netwhistle.com. One of the few free ones left which I am trying out is www.Internetseer.com |
Maintenance for larger
businesses and Web sites of more than 10 pages are negotiated on a site
for site basis to ensure appropriateness.
